Louise passed away on May 25, 2012. She was born in Gretna, Manitoba on September 3, 1918. At the age of three, she moved with her family to Newton, Kansas. She graduated with a degree in Nursing from the University of Kansas in 1940 and married Dr. Peter D. Hooge in 1941. They lived briefly in Manitoba, and then in Kindersley, Saskatchewan until moving to Kelowna in 1968. Louise spent most of her life as a volunteer. She volunteered for 50 years with the Red Cross at blood donor clinics and at other duties. In Kindersley, she was a Brownie Leader with the Girl Guides. Flower gardening was a favorite activity which lead to volunteering for many years making flower arrangements with the Kelowna Hospital Auxiliary at Kelowna General . She also worked with Candy Stripers at the hospital. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for more than 60 years and was a Past Matron of that organization. Louise was interested in art all her life and was happy when she was able to enroll in art classes at Okanagan College after moving to Kelowna. She spent many happy hours painting and was a founding and honourary member of the Water Colour Guild, and an honourary member of the Kelowna Palette Club. She also achieved and retained active status in the Canadian Federation of Artist. Louise was predeceased by her husband Dr. Peter D. Hooge in 2004. She will be remembered with love by her son John Hooge (Cathy Kunz) of Vancouver; her grandchildren Andrea Hooge of Seattle, and Samuel Hooge (Christine) of Vancouver, and her one year old great-grandchild Lola Hooge. She will also be missed by the mother of her grandchildren Brenda Hooge (Conrad Koke), her sister-in-law Norma Friesen , her nieces and nephews, and her good friend and caregiver Carol Hammond. Her memorial service will be held later this summer in Kelowna. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the children’s ward at Kelowna General Hospital would be appreciated.
