It is with profound sadness and with broken hearts the family of Cora Elizabeth Gray announce her passing on Thursday, April 26, 2018. She passed away peacefully at the age of 90 in Kelowna General Hospital with her daughter Diane at her bedside. Cora was by predeceased by her loving husband, Ronald (Bud) in 2012.
She loved her family above all else. Cora is survived by her son David (Lynne), daughter Diane Dalsvaag (Allan) and son William Ernest (Mary Ann). Six grandchildren, Julie (Devin) Rubadeau, James (Emma) Dalsvaag, Michele (Mark) Pedersen, Angela (Mike) Artuso, Laura (Ben) Postlethwaite & Dan (Julie) Gray. Nine great-grandchildren Ryan & Tyler Rubadeau, Logan & Darcy Pedersen, Winston & Oskar Dalsvaag, Jack Artuso, Willem & Henrik Postlethwaite.
Cora was a long standing member of the Western Institute for the Deaf and was President of the Vancouver Association for the Deaf for many years. Cora was a very dedicated and hard working member of the deaf community. She was always ready to help teach and encouraged anyone who was interested in learning sign language. She started “Happy hands” in Vancouver where her deaf friends gathered for lunch and played card games. She certainly enjoyed the camaraderie of all her deaf friends especially when they had a surprise 90th Birthday Party for her. Cora was a very kind and special lady with a great sense of humour.
Living in Vancouver, Burnaby, White Rock, Kelowna, then to Hawthorn Park Retirement Home in Kelowna Cora & Ron met many new friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Schriemer, Dr. Jones, Dr. Notting and the staff at KGH 4 East for the care and compassion during her stay.
At Cora’s request there will not be a funeral service. Following cremation, a celebration of life will be held at Hawthorn Park Retirement Residence, 867 KLO Road, Kelowna, BC on Saturday, May 12, 2018 from 2-6pm. Donations in Cora’s memory may be sent to the Western Institute for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, 2125 West 7th Avenue, Vancouver, BC V6K 1X9.
