It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of David James Lucas on December 30, just 18 days passed his 76th birthday. David (Dave) was born and raised in Moose Jaw, SK. He was the oldest of six siblings, three of whom predeceased him. He will be deeply missed by his sisters Donna Pearson and Leone Adam.
From his first marriage, David leaves behind one daughter, Marlann, to mourn his loss.
Later in life, Dave met Christel, the love of his life. They had a common-law marriage for 32 years and lived in AB before retiring to Armstrong, BC, in 2016.
Dave was a long-haul truck driver for over 30 years, travelling to every corner of Canada and much of the U.S. He hauled everything from general commodities to dangerous goods and loved to share stories from his long weeks on the road. He valued the freedom his job provided and wished to dedicate the following verses to all those who have worked in the trucking profession:
“Gather around, old trucking friends
And lift your cups with pride.
We’ll drink a toast to diesel smoke
And our comrades who have died.
To all the men who’ve made that trip
That we all someday must run,
When death hands us our last dispatch
And our earthly days are done.”
Dave had a true passion for classic cars. His pride and joy was a 1953 Ford Customline that he restored from the ground up. In his free time, he could often be found watching car restoration programs, unable to get enough of them.
He leaves behind his life partner, Christel, her children—daughter Angela (Kim) and son Neal (Julie)—and grandchildren Mitchell, Matthew, Kenny, Nichole, Tyler, Josh, and Colton, along with numerous great-grandchildren who will cherish his memory.
A Celebration of Life will be held later this spring, with details to be announced.
