1933 – 2021
It is with great sadness that the family of Donald Keith (Bud) Hammond announce his peaceful passing on July 31, 2021, in Kelowna, BC.
Bud leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Donna, son Craig, daughter Leslie (Derek), and grandchildren, Casey, Claire, Devon, and Nathan.
Bud was born on November 10, 1933, in Toronto, ON. Growing up during the depression, and being raised by his single mother Winnifred and two older sisters, Mary and Ann, Bud learned to be self-reliant and developed a very strong work ethic that helped him throughout his life.
Bud proudly graduated from Queens University in 1957 as a Civil Engineer and fondly reminisced about his university days. He and Donna often met up for alumni events with his old friends and their spouses. Bud was hired out of university by American Standard Industrial Products in Toronto. Shortly thereafter he met Donna, who lived upstairs in the same boarding house. Apparently Bud, who was colour blind, needed lots of help assembling an amplifier kit and who better to assist him than the enchanting brunette upstairs.
Early in 1960 Bud was transferred by American Standard to Montreal. Later that same year he and Donna were married and she then joined him in Montreal. They enjoyed a few fun years with great life-long friends before accepting a transfer to Vancouver in 1963. Bud always had very good analytical skills and timing. In 1969 he started his own company, Hepco Industries, to represent American Standard in BC as well as partner with Jo-Ad Industries of Montreal to supply equipment to the rapidly growing computer data centre market.
Bud and Donna moved to West Vancouver to raise their family and lived in the Gleneagles and West Bay areas for more than 50 years. Bud volunteered with the West Vancouver Minor Hockey League where he coached for several years and enjoyed helping the kids learn new skills and be successful on the ice. For Bud, his passion for business was almost matched by his passion for golf. Bud was an avid golfer who joined Capilano Golf and Country Club in 1971. Bud was an active member until 2015 and then became a social member.
In 2015 Bud and Donna moved to Kelowna to enjoy a more relaxed lifestyle and spent the winter in warmer climates. The family would like to thank the home support care workers for all their kindness this past year in assisting Bud with his declining health.
