Doreen Frances Davis (nee Jasper), born in Regina Sask. March 25, 1943 with her twin sister Dianne Cathryn Jasper ( d Oct 18,2013) passed peacefully at KGH ICU on May 29th, 2021 with both her Son's at her bedside.
Darcy J Davis and Daryl J Davis held their Mom close and comforted her while machines fell silent and interventions suspended. Mom fought hard to survive the myriad of threats that compounded and exacerbated her condition. The Medical Staff exercised every effort to save her and to that we are grateful.
Daughter to Ida and Cecil Jasper, sister to Dianne, Barry, Micheal, Faye, Gail, Henry and Jackie Lynn.
Doreen was raised in Southern Saskatchewan and always talked about small-town life in around Ricetown. She and twin Dianne spent summers on their Great Aunt Mary's farm to which they were most fond. Those memories helped shaped her strong appreciation for love of family, association and prairie pride.
Doreen married Jack Davis (Nov 13, 2004) in Calgary in 1962 and produced two sons Darcy and Daryl. It was in Calgary that Moms telephone career started.
Doreen was a communications pioneer and worked as an operator in its many forms and technologies. In the early 60's she personally routed calls on her switchboard and would have to memorize district prefixes or talk with other operators for long distance calls keeping a pencil at the ready to keep track of time. Over the decades, the headphones got smaller and things became more automated, so Doreen not wanting to become a footnote embraced the new frontier worked on 411, message relay for deaf, mobile phone and as executive call answering operator. Her 40- year career included corporations like AGT, EdTEL, SaskTel and then retiring from Telus in 2003.
Mom upon retiring packed the homestead and moved lock stock into a handsome one-bedroom condo located in Rutland district of Kelowna. These new digs brought her closer to her Sister and family. Mom bought a modest and reliable car she called Tilly. Having transportation made it easy for her to visit her Mom Ida and Sister Dianne. Road trips became moveable feasts with home-cooking, canning and baking. Mom would literally bring the party along with Music and Song. She loved outdoor gigs, car shows, farmers markets and long strolls in local parks and Ben Lee. Mom attended Aqua fit, thrifting, volunteering for Sally-Ann. Indoor activities also included TV media like TCM, Barrett-Jackson carshow, The Triple Crown and reality shows featuring furry creatures. Mom’s most recent pets included cats China and Gemma. If she wasn't popping in or hosting a lazy buffet for company, she was only 10 digits away from a extended phone call reception or inception. The telephone was her trade tool and knew how to adeptly shift through the gears of a conversation and keep you engaged and entertained. I will miss hearing her soft and youthful speak.
Doreen would make you feel appreciated and either took time to call you or send a package through the post, which often contained a greeting card covered in witticisms and quotes, references to pop culture, pictures, magazine cutouts and the imbedded dirty limerick or joke. Pictures and Family history were her Yoga. Mom had a supernatural ability to remember dates, birthdays, anniversaries and could connect lineage to at least 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon...ha ha.
The memory of Doreen will be undoubtedly held close with her twin sister Dianne. Their bond and friendship ultimately demonstrated a love, which helped shape and teach their children and grandchildren the sanctity of family. Sanctity in this case referring to ultimate importance and inviolability.
In conclusion, Sons Darcy and Daryl Davis will plan a attendee memorial sometime later in the year that celebrates the life of Doreen Davis and homage to her twin Sister Dianne.
