December 6, 1927 – January 9, 2020
Elisabeth (Betty) Poh, Dec. 6, 1927 - Jan. 9, 2020. Betty passed away peacefully in Penticton, B.C. at the age of 92 on January 9, 2020. Born in Neustadt an der Weinstrasse, Germany, Betty was the youngest of three siblings. She met the love of her life, Edgar Poh, while still in elementary school. While it wasn’t exactly love at first sight (she didn’t like him much when they were children!), they began dating when he returned from the war and they married July 28, 1951. They had two children, a daughter Irene and 4 years later a son, Walter. Due to a shortage of employment opportunities in their hometown following the war, the family decided to emigrate to Canada. Ed went first and Betty followed with their children in 1956. After living for a short while in Pickle Crow, Northern Ontario, the family settled in Kitimat, B.C. where they remained until 1968. The family then moved to Mission, B.C. where Betty, drawing on her natural sense of style, ran a successful children’s wear store called Tiny Tots. With their children grown and out of the house, the mid 1970s found Betty running a restaurant called “the Hot Spot” that Ed had built in Agassiz, B.C. where they now lived. Upon retiring, Betty and Ed moved to a hobby farm in Monte Lake, B.C. in 1990 and later to a smaller hobby farm in Kamloops, B.C. When Ed passed away in 2002, Betty moved into a townhome and began volunteering her time with the Royal Inland Hospital Auxiliary. Betty had a gift for knitting and spent countless hours creating intricate baby sweaters and hats that she donated to the RIH Auxiliary. She also volunteered her time working in the hospital gift shop. Always impeccably dressed, Betty loved shopping with her friends and going for coffee. She loved the symphony and spending time with her family. She leaves behind daughter Irene (Jim), son Walter (Lesley), grandchildren Elissa, Karin, Jennifer (Damien), Steffanie (Bo), great grandchildren Lydia, Kathryn (Jordan), Zakiah, Thomas, Rachel, Tobias, Bryson, Sophie and great great grandchild Dominic. We love you and will miss you everyday! As per her request there will be no service. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.firstmemorialfuneralkelowna.com.
