It is with sadness that the family of Ellen Allen announce her passing on March 31, 2022 at Kelowna Hospice House after a long but courageous battle with COPD and lung cancer. Ellen was born in Sacriston, County Durham, England on Oct 26, 1939. She grew up and worked there for a number of years but in 1973, a short trip to Canada to visit her brother George and family, changed Ellen’s life forever. She was introduced to Maurice Allen who quickly became the love of her life and she did not return to England as planned. Ellen and Maurice were married a year and a half later and made their home in Edmonton for 20 years. They enjoyed traveling, camping, working in their yard and happy times with family and friends. They made the move to Kelowna in 1993 and they enjoyed many happy years there working, golfing and enjoying the company of friends and family.
Ellen’s family was the delight of her life. She kept up on the very busy grandkids’ and great grandkids’ activities, and on Barbara and Paul’s lives. She enjoyed many many phone calls, FaceTimes, and visits to Calgary. Ellen also took great interest in what was happening in the lives of her siblings and her many nieces and nephews.
Ellen was predeceased by her loving husband Maurice in 2009. She was also predeceased by her brother George and sister-in-law Margaret of Kelowna, brother Bobby(Edna) (England), sister Sheila and brother-in-law Rob (England) and her parents Bob and Nellie Foster (England).
Left to grieve her passing are Ellen’s daughter Barbara and son-in-law Paul, grandchildren; Jill (Justin), Jason (Adrienne) and Krista (Nick) and five great grandchildren; Blake, Sienna, January, Oliver and Henry.
Ellen also leaves to mourn numerous nieces and nephews and their families, as well as many friends and acquaintances.
Our family wishes to acknowledge and thank Dr. Robert Williams (Kirschner Medical Group, Kelowna), Dr. D. Finch and the Palliative Care Team of the BC Cancer Clinic and the Kelowna Hospice House for the outstanding care given to our Mom, Nana/Noa. We appreciate you.
“Say not in grief that she is no more, but in thankfulness that she was”. (Hebrew Proverb)
A private life celebration for Ellen will follow later this summer.
