Frank grew up in West Vancouver and later attended University of British Columbia to study mechanical engineering. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served as a Navigator and then as an Aerospace Engineer. He served his country for 36 years with distinction and was awarded several military medals.
He loved to travel and his time in the military gave him the opportunity to live in and explore Great Britain, France, Italy, Germany, Greece, China and a number of locales in Canada. Later his travels took him to Hawaii, Australia, Antarctica and Scandinavia.
Upon retirement, Frank was involved with various volunteer organizations. He was the President of both the Kelowna Canadian Club and the Kelowna wing of the RCAF Association. As a lifelong Liberal, he was a campaign manager for the Liberal Party of Kelowna. And he supported the Society for Learning in Retirement and presented a number of popular classes to his peers.
Frank liked to keep fit and enjoyed the outdoors. Hiking, skiing, swimming, working out in the gym were consistent pursuits throughout his life. He was passionate about playing bridge and was an avid reader.
Frank was predeceased by his wife of 37 years, Frances, his life partner of 20 years, Madeleine Bourdon, his sister Dorothy Applegath, his niece Kim Harvey-Smith and his brother Freddie Harvey-Smith.
He is survived by his brother Doug Harvey-Smith, his children Sharon Zoschke, Judy Watson (Ron), Michael Harvey-Smith, Richard Harvey-Smith, and daughter-in-law, Donna Schimm, his grandchildren David, Courtney (Tegan), Mallory (Eric), Jordan, Zachary, and Jillian, and great grandchildren, Dax, Cooper and Theodore. Frank will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
