Rick Hardman of Kelowna B.C. peacefully passed away last week at Cottonwoods Care Centre at the age of 70 years old. He had faced recent health struggles due to a stroke he’d suffered several months earlier.

Rick was born on March 14, 1949 to Ivor and Lorraine Hardman in Vancouver BC. Ivor’s sales career moved the family to several different cities within the lower mainland but they settled in Langley where Rick graduated from Langley Senior Secondary in 1968. Teenage Rick was heavily involved in athletics and had a large social group of friends, many of whom he’d stay in contact with for the remainder of his life. He was also a voracious reader and you’d often find him enthralled in a good book.

In 1974 Rick married Linda Brown, also of Langley, and the next year she gave birth to his first son Michael. In the early summer of 1978 his second son Chad followed and the Hardman’s settled into the Langley suburbs while Rick went on to have success as the general manager of Buckerfields.

Rick followed a career opportunity with Cargill to Lethbridge Alberta in 1984. In Lethbridge he passed on his passion for sports into his boys and rarely missed a soccer, baseball or football game. He filled his spare time with hobbies such as fishing, fly tying and wood working. Rick loved the outdoors and family vacations were spent camping and fishing in the interior of B.C.

Ricks love of British Columbia led him and the boys back in the summer of 1993 with a move to Kamloops. A couple of years later he led the family south to Kelowna where he would make his residence for the remainder of his days.

While in Kelowna Rick became involved with the Unitarian Church and it didn’t take him long to develop many strong relationships. He was a believer in community and always made himself available to assist those in need.
