

Fred passed away peacefully at Orchard Manor Care Home in the presence of his wife of 54 years, Dorothy. Fred was born and grew up in Langenburg Saskatchewan, working for his father delivering fuel before joining the air force in 1944 to train as an air gunner. After leaving the air force he trained as a mechanic, then rejoined in 1950 training as a pilot in the dawn of the jet age. He flew Vampires, Sabres and T33 trainers before becoming an instructor and pilot on the F104 and later on helicopters. He married in 1954 and started a family the following year. They were stationed in Manitoba, Alberta and Europe. He was pre deceased by his wife Shirley in 1967 and most of his generation over the next 56 years. Fred married Dorothy Pokrant in 1969 and when he retired from the Air Force they moved to Salmon Arm and then Kelowna. He worked in the automotive industry before finishing his working days with the Post Office. They enjoyed the retired life and especially returning to the prairies to visit and help with the farm in Manitoba. Fred is survived by his wife Dorothy, Sons Marshall (Sue), Peter (Sonja) and daughter Susan. Also his Brother in law Cliff Neumann, Sister in law Marg Rudy, 5 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. A special thanks to the staff at Orchard Manor who made his stay there comfortable and put up with him when his frustration with his paralysis got the best of him. Also to daughter Susan who took care of both her parents day to day affairs and needs. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
