It is with great sadness that the family of Fredrick Russell Linge announces his passing on Sunday, October 3 at 84 years of age. Fred will be deeply missed but never forgotten by his family and friends. He was born in Kamloops, BC, to Herbert (Shorty) William Linge and Annie Pearl Linge (Forrest). Fred was the second of four boys and grew up on the Hop Farm in Campbell Creek. After graduation, he moved to Vancouver, BC where he would obtain his Master’s Degree in Psychology. It was there he met his wife, Angela. After several moves they settled in BC, at first in Penticton then ultimately in Kelowna where they would raise their three children, David, Rachel and Winnie. Fred filled his free time with outdoor pursuits including epic canoeing trips up the Pacific Coast and through the Bowron Lakes. He was an avid skier, crossword puzzle master and an excellent cook. In 1977, Fred was in a devastating car accident which left him with significant physical injuries and lifelong brain damage. Miraculously, he was able to return to his work as a psychologist for the Government of BC. He and Angela’s subsequent article “What Does It Feel Like to be Brain Damaged” was an acclaimed piece that saw them speaking to, and inspiring, countless brain damaged individuals and their families across the world. Fred is predeceased by his parents, his eldest brother Hugh and his wife, Mary, and his younger brother, Raymond and his wife, Colleen. Fred is survived by his brother Patrick Linge, his sister-in-law Patsy Linge; son David Linge, daughter Rachel Malcolm, and daughter Winnie O'Brien; grandchildren James Tomelin, Bonnie Linge, Rebecca McAnerin, Dave Linge, Liam O’Brien and Erin O’Brien; great grandchildren Isolde and Lincoln Tomelin; nephew Terry Linge; and nieces Melody Linge, Debbie Wehnes, Janice Linge, and Kathy Linge. On Angela’s side, he was predeceased by his sister-in-law Adrienne Murphy (children Angelo, Roisin, Brian, Desmond, Tony and Sean), and is survived by his sisters-in-law Rosemary Bower (children Moira, Valerie and Victoria) and Lorraine Toleikis (Steven) (children Miranda and Hilary); as well as various extended and honourary families members. Vigil and prayers will be held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church (750 Rutland Rd N, Kelowna, BC) at 7pm on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021. Church service will be at 11am Friday, Oct.22, followed by burial at St. Theresa’s (Corpus Christi) cemetery (2860 Sexsmith Rd). Private reception will be at Valleyview Funeral Home.
