He is survived by his four children Jaine (George), Chris (Alison), Bruce and Kathi (Geoff), 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, along with his wife Kaye Langager. George was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Mary and his daughter Cylynne.
“I have lived a wonderful life” he often remarked as he looked back over his 90 years. He was an active member of numerous fraternal, community and religious organizations throughout his life. He received his 60 year pin from the Star of the West Masonic Lodge in Leduc AB. He spent many decades serving in the Order of Eastern Star, Shriners, Masons, and the Lions club in his early years. George was a 5 Star Master Builder with Manulife Financial and a trail blazer in setting up his own independent agency for financial investment and life insurance services.
George was a dedicated family man. He was always there as a sounding board for his children. He loved hanging out with his grandchildren and was fascinated to watch his fourth generation of great grandchildren arrive into his life and grow up so quickly. He had hundreds of stories that he willingly shared with a big smile and had a unique way of making a short story long.
Throughout his life, George loved to travel. His favourite mode of travel was on horseback. For more than 50 years, he rode the mountain trails of Western Canada, often joined by his father, son, daughter and several grandchildren. He owned more motor homes than he could remember and loved to travel with Mary down the highways throughout North America. He also Ioved taking cruises, visiting many ports and countries around the world.
George spent his final years in the Hawthorne Retirement Community in Kelowna. He loved singing with that community right up to the end of his life. His family expresses their deepest gratitude to the extraordinary love, care and friendship the staff devoted to him over the last phase of his life.
A celebration of George’s life is being planned for Spring, 2022. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in George’s name to the Kelowna General Hospital Foundation (www.kghfoundation.com) and would be appreciated.
