
Predeceased by his wife, Bertha Gloria née Resendez. Henry is survived by his three sons; Alfred Michael (Fred), Henry William (Bill) spouse Miriam and Andrew Joseph George (Andy or A.J.) spouse Veronique, his three sisters; Hildegard, Gertrud and Ingrid and his four grandchildren; Joshua, Marcus, Trevor and Stephanie.
Henry passed away on March 28th, 2016 at his home in West Kelowna. He was born in Berlin, Germany on June 11, 1939 and grew up in the Black Forest. He immigrated to Sherwood Park, Alberta in 1957 at the young age of 18. Henry met his wife Bertha in Los Angeles California while at a Knights of Columbus dance and they married in 1964. He went to college at night while working full time to became a metallurgist and had a successful and colourful career, always in management positions. He moved his family back to Edmonton in 1980 and helped our family fall in love with the Canadian life (we have never left). Henry and Bertha moved to the Okanagan in the early 90's and Henry retired in 2006.
Henry was “A man in love with life”, his friendliness, comradely and positive perspective were infectious to all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was a proud member of the Kolping Society of Canada, a Chaplin in the Elks (USA), three time past Grande Knight of the Knights of Columbus, over thirty year member of the Canadian/German Society, Member of the German Choir in Edmonton/Kelowna and a devoted and very well respected elder in the Catholic Church which he worshiped.
A memorial mass will be held for Henry Alfred Wehnert at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at 839 Sutherland Ave, Kelowna, BC V1Y 5X4 on Saturday, May 7th at 3:00 PM. A reception at the hall directly adjacent to the Church will follow immediately following the mass at approximately 4 PM.
You presence is requested and most appreciated at both the mass and the reception. The interment will be restricted to immediate family only and will be held on Tuesday, May 10th.
