MLASKO, Hubert of Kelowna, passed away in the Central Okanagan Hospice House in July 17th, 2019. Hubert died with his loving family at his side. He is survived by his wife, Mary, his daughter Sandie (Glenn) Morrow, Leanne (Joe) Pastore. Grandchildren Christina, Matthew and Katie Morrow, Tony and Vince Pastore, his sister, Ida (Randy) and brother, Miran (Donna) Vnuk. Hubert escaped with his family from his beloved country Yugoslovia in 1957 seeking a better life and future. They settled in Vancouver where Hubert lived for the next 20 years, got married in 1963 and started his family. He worked for B.C. Tel in Vancouver and later at OK Tel (Telus) in Vernon for 31 years retiring in 1996. In 1977 Hubert realized his dream of owning a farm and moved with his wife and their two young daughters to an 80 acre hay farm. He also raised cattle, as well as an assortment of other animals. Hubert was a compassionate person. He empathized with those who were less fortunate than he was and loved animals both wild and domestic. When he had a chance he loved to be out in nature. He loved camping, boating, fishing, and bird watching. Hubert was somewhat of a dare-devil flying his ultralight airplanes and lived to tell the tales of his “crashes”. Hubert sold his farm in 2004 and moved to Winfield. He and Mary then had the freedom to do some serious travelling. They took many trips across USA and Europe with both friends and family. He returned to his beloved Slovenia after an absence of 50 years and was reunited with his family and friends. He returned several times over the following years, and last September (2018) he made a special trip with his daughters and grandson Matthew to meet his family. Hubert will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A Celebration of Hubert’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 24th, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of First Memorial Funeral Services, 1211 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna.
