Jessie Sarah Hansen (née Wallace) passed away peacefully on August 23rd, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at the Kelowna Hospice House. Born on March 9th, 1931, in Pennant, Saskatchewan, Jessie lived a full and vibrant life, characterized by love, laughter, and an unwavering spirit.
On November 11th, 1950, Jessie married her devoted and loving husband, Kenneth Hansen. In the early spring of 1951, Jessie and Ken migrated from Saskatchewan to Kelowna, where they built a life filled with cherished memories, love, and adventure. They were often seen together on their scooters, picking up lunch to enjoy at the beach, a tradition they maintained right up until her last days. Their bond was an inspiration to all who knew them.
Jessie was the beloved mother of two daughters, Donna Parkhurst (née Hansen, husband Charles) and Cynthia Maeschalck (née Hansen, husband Robert), who were the pride and joy of her life. Cynthia's son Matthew, and Donna's three children, Curtis Harding (partner Karen), Olivia Harding (husband Alex), and Lowell Harding (wife Kendra), were a source of immense pride for Jessie. She was a proud great-grandmother to Curtis's children, Julianna and Lucas Harding; Lowell's children, Kohen and Phoenix Harding, and Lucas Brandt.
Jessie had a deep love for horses and enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, like getting dressed up for a night out or spending every day outdoors. Her connection with nature was a source of comfort and joy, and she found peace in the beauty of the world around her.
Her warm heart, enduring love, and spirited personality will be dearly missed by her family and all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Jessie leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and memories that will be treasured forever.
A service to celebrate Jessie's life will be held at the First United Church, located at 721 Bernard Avenue, Kelowna, on October 5th at noon. The service will be open to all who wish to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kelowna Hospice House in Jessie's memory.
