Born on March 14th, 1948, in Trail, BC, to Lewis and Dorothy Malott, Laurie grew up with a passion for hockey, a love of music, a spirit of adventure, and a knack for finding joy in the simple things. These were traits that stayed with him his whole life.
Laurie built his greatest legacy through his family. For 54 years, he shared his life with his wife, Clarice, his closest friend. Together, they created a home filled with love, laughter, and unwavering support, a true partnership built on trust, kindness, and shared dreams. He was a proud and caring father to Tesha and her partner, Jason, and to Kristy and her husband, Brandon, cherishing the families they built together. Laurie was happiest when surrounded by his loved ones, whether it was a big family dinner or the everyday conversations that turned into lifelong memories.
Nothing brought him more joy than being a grandfather to Oskar, Coen, and Mila. Driving them to and from school was never just a routine for Laurie; it was time for laughter, stories, music, and connection, moments he treasured deeply and that his grandchildren will hold in their hearts forever.
Laurie had a heart for people. He was the kind of man who would stop what he was doing to help anyone in need, a true friend to many and a quiet force of generosity in his community. Whether it was teeing off with friends at Gallagher’s Canyon, travelling around Australia, turning up the music of Bob Dylan, or simply enjoying a drink with family and friends, Laurie found joy in connection with people, with places, and with life itself. He brought his razor-sharp wit to all occasions.
Laurie was a long-standing member of the Knights of Columbus (4th Degree) and for the majority of his working life, Administrator of the Columbian Centennial Housing Society. The pinnacle of his time with the Knights was his tenure as Grand Knight, St Pius X Council and as District Deputy for the Kelowna Knights of Columbus branch.
He leaves behind his loving wife, daughters and sons-in-laws, cherished grandchildren, his brother Jim (Rita), and sisters Barb (Bill), Sandra (Tom), Pat (John), and Debbie (Shannon), along with countless nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended family.
Laurie’s absence leaves an ache in our hearts, but his love, laughter, and generosity will live on in the many lives he made brighter.
There will be no celebration of life or service at Laurie’s request.
