Oscar died peacefully in his sleep on April 16, 2020. He was born on May 31, 1923 in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, the youngest of 7 siblings. He left the farm to move to Port Alberni to form a butcher shop partnership with his brother, Hugh. When the partnership dissolved, he moved to Chilliwack to be a farm hand for cattle/dairy farmers; farming a passion he wanted to pursue. Then he and his brother, Bill packed their bags and moved to Kelowna another aspect of farming onto Joe Casorso’s crop-sharing potato patch where he met the love of his life, Olga Hanet. Together the farmed vegetables on McCurdy Road where they grew carrots, beans, corn and the major crop being onions. Before the farm was sustainable for the family, Oscar, would in winter, be a faller working in the bush or working at Simpson & Rutland sawmills. In time, the onion farm flourished and he had up to 22 acres of onions from Walla Walla Spanish sweet onions (sole provider for the P.N.E.), silverskins to winter onion that would last until next season. Once they outgrew the home place, Oscar oversaw the developing and sub-dividing of residential lots. He then bought a parcel of land on Hayashi Road and oversaw the developing of this sub-division for residential homes. They retired to Cornish Road where hay was grown. Oscar is survived by wife Olga, (married 69 years), Ellen (Mike), Elaine (Rick), Harvey, grandchildren Charlene, Rhonda (Bill), Heather, Matt (Drennen), Deanna (Shaun), Sandor (Lindsey), Justin, Taylor, Brydon, Kristen (Cam), Danielle (Brandon) as well as great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
