We are saddened to share the unfortunate news of the peaceful passing of our Dad, Grandpa/Gido, who was surrounded by his loving family on September 15, 2019, at the age of 95.
He was born on April 15, 1924, in Rycroft, Alberta to parents Sam and Nellie Karpol.
Left to mourn his passing are his son Don (Gail) Kurmey of Saskatoon, SK, son Andy (Janice) Kurmey of Lethbridge, AB, son Darcy (Tianna) Karpol of Kelowna, BC, and daughter Tracey (Corey) Knorr of Kelowna, BC. Also left to mourn are 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Dad grew up on the family farm, leaving for Edmonton with just a suitcase and his bicycle at age 21, then taking the train to Vancouver to find any work he could. He purchased shares in a bar on East Hastings called The Grand Union, which is still there today. He met Jane and got married in 1963, and then moved to Saskatoon and worked as a carpenter. In 1979, he decided to retire and move to Kelowna where he built 2 family homes. He continued keeping busy doing some carpentry work and was proud of his garden and fruit trees. He loved playing his harmonica and spending time with his family. He was always ready to lend a helping hand with anything that was needed by anyone.
Dad will be missed and remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Special thanks to all who cared for our dad at Cottonwoods Care Home.
At dads request, there will be no funeral. Cremation and a private family gathering will be held at a later date.
Arrangements with First Memorial Funeral Services, Kelowna, BC 250-762-2299.
