Born: April 24, 1956, at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver, BC, Canada
Died: September 15, 2025, in Kelowna, BC, at the age of 69
Ross leaves behind his parents, Peter and Millie MacQueen; his children, Jordan (Donna) and Alissa (John); his grandchildren, Preston and Dominic (with mom Alissa); his brother, Lindsay MacQueen (Stefanie); and his sisters, Sharon Waldron (Mike) and Tracey McIlveen (Ken). He is also remembered by many nieces, nephews, and a host of younger extended family members.
Ross was the oldest child in his family. His three siblings remember him as an excellent big brother, with a calm, reassuring presence. His parents deeply loved their firstborn and so began their family. His grandparents, Scotty and Teresia MacQueen, know affectionately known as Ba and Nanny, were also a big part of Ross’s life growing up. Many fond memories were forged at their home in West Vancouver, then “up the mountain” at Eagle Lake, then later at their place on Cawston Avenue in Kelowna. Road trips to the Cariboo were also part of growing up.
Ross attended school in Port Moody, North Vancouver, Vancouver, Calgary, and graduated from high school in Kelowna in 1974. After graduation, Ross married Monica Melynchuk, then embarked on a career in banking and finance. He started with the Bank of Montreal in Sicamous, later holding positions in Salmon Arm, Merritt, and Kamloops, before the family, now including Jordan and Alissa, settled in Kelowna. Ross continued working in finance and was later employed at the Chevron at Harvey and Spall until shortly before his passing.
Ross (Dad to his kids) ensured that family life was active and adventurous. Camping trips, live shows and concerts, and yearly ski vacations were highlights. He was generous, thoughtful, and welcoming. He would give his last $10 to someone in need, never missed a birthday or special occasion, and made everyone feel included and important.
Ross loved to travel and experience different cultures. In later years, he stayed closer to home but often reminisced and entertained with recounts of his adventures. A natural storyteller, Ross loved sharing and embellishing tales of shared experiences. He enjoyed parties, backyard barbecues, good food and drink, and spending time with friends and family. Over the years, he built many enduring friendships.
Ross, in his day, was also an avid golfer with a sweet, smooth, natural swing. He likely honed his skills at Little Mountain Pitch and Putt in Vancouver, played regularly as a teen in Calgary, and throughout the Okanagan as an adult. He was a passionate cook and food connoisseur. He also loved music, especially rock and roll. He was a prolific, enthusiastic reader and his encyclopedic knowledge of books and TV series was unmatched. He kept up with current events and world news and had a deep fascination with science fiction and the mysteries of unexplored worlds.
Ross, you were a kind-hearted and open soul. Beloved son, grandson, father, grandfather, brother, and so much more. You are deeply missed by all of us here on Earth. Gone now, but never, ever forgotten.
Bon voyage, Ross—riding on a starship in search of mystery and adventure.
