Samira was the loving wife of Habib Jaklis; the compassionate mother of her two sons, Ziad (Pascale) and Walid (Tanya) Jaklis, as well as her late daughter Zeina (Naji) Azoury; the dearest sister of late Samia (Georges) Abi Chakra, Jean (Louise) Baroud, Nahia (Johnny) Tabbal, and Georges (late Mona) Baroud; the gentle grandmother of Thomas Jaklis, Joe Azoury, Karina and Lina Jaklis; and the loving aunt to a number of nieces and nephews. She joins her parents Marie and Chakib Baroud; her daughter, Zeina, and her sister Samia in the safe arms of our Lord and Saviour.
Samira was born to Marie and Chakib Baroud in Beirut, Lebanon, on July 23rd, 1945. She married her husband, Habib, on February 3rd, 1968 and together they shared 58 wonderful years. She was a loving, caring, and nurturing mother to Ziad, Zeina, and Walid. In 1985, she moved to Canada with her family and resided in Ottawa, Ontario, before moving to Kelowna, British Columbia with her husband in 2015. In 2014, she was diagnosed with breast cancer, as well as Alzheimer’s disease in 2022, both of which she fought against bravely throughout the last 12 years of her life. Such persistence served as an inspiration to us all. She was a light to everyone who knew her and the light shone brightest through her beautiful smile, thoughtful heart, sweet personality, steadfast devotion to Jesus Christ, and warm sense of humour.
A funeral service will be held in Kelowna on Thursday, May 28th at 11:00AM, at St. Charles Garnier Parish, 3645 Benvoulin Rd. Her funeral services will then follow at Kelowna Memorial Cemetery, 1991 Bernard Ave, at 1:30PM. For those wishing, in lieu of flowers, donations to the BC Cancer Foundation’s Kelowna Branch (see donation link below), and the Alzheimer’s Society of BC and Yukon online at alzbc.org, will be greatly appreciated. We would like to thank all the wonderful doctors, nurses, and care aids at the BCCA and Spring Valley Care home, who provided excellent care for Samira.
