JOHNSON: Shirley Ann. With dignity and conviction, Shirley Ann Johnson passed away on Saturday, Sept 7,2013. We will all remember and honor her as our Mother, our Grandmother, our Great Grandmother, and our friend. Left with loving memories are her children, Shelley Struthers (Scott), Brian Johnson (Jane), and Leslie Thomson (Neil), her grandchildren Jessica Erb (Conrad), Josh Struthers (Annie Colwell), Erin Thomson (Gray Jordan), and Ashley Dalziel (Nick), her great grandchildren Jake, Dylan and Lauren, and lastly her many friends in Winnipeg, Victoria and Kelowna.Shirley was born and raised in Winnipeg, where, as a teenager, she met the love of her life, our father, Grant. After dating for 5 years, they were married for 62 years! They travelled extensively and loved to embark on cruises, including an "around the world cruise" of 61 days. Shirley was very active in various volunteer positions with Winnipeg's Junior League and also was the President of the Children's Home of Winnipeg and Children's Theatre. Along with these volunteer positions, Shirley made a career at the Misericordia General Hospital as the Director of Volunteers. Shirley and Grant retired part time to Sarasota Florida, and finally spent 20 years loving life on the island, in Victoria. She was a passionate reader, and an accomplished Bridge player. She spent her last three years in Kelowna where she made many friends who will attest to her quick wit, love of life, intelligence and her commanding skills at the Bridge table. Shirley's family wants to express our sincere and heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers at Kelowna General Hospital, ward 5B. From here, Mom moved to Okanagan Hospice House. There are no words to describe the care and attention she and her family received during this time. There are too many names to mention, but please know that all of you will be forever in our hearts. Thank you. A private family celebration of Shirley's life will be held in the spring of 2014 in Winnipeg. The family, and Shirley asks that in lieu of flowers, any memorial donations be made to the Central Okanagan Hospice Association at www.hospicecoha.org. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.mem.com, click on stories and type in Shirley Johnson. Arrangements entrusted with First Memorial Funeral Services, Kelowna, B.C. 250-762-2299
