Vera was the first daughter of John and Kate Cochrane. John was an itinerant evangelist sponsored by the YMCA in Dublin Ireland .There was no financial compensation just his love for telling others about Jesus, her mother Kate raised her to see the provision of the Lord in supplying all their needs. A Second daughter Jenefer was welcomed into the Cochrane family, a little sister for Vera and a comfort to Kate when Vera married and moved away to England.
Vera married Ben Wolfe on September 15, 1956 in the church of Ireland, Dublin. She would have celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary next month.
Vera and Ben lived in England until 1967 where they welcomed five children. Sylvia, Margaret Ruth, Bernard, Sonia and Norman. In 1967 the family immigrated from England to Prince George BC Canada. Vera became the wife of an itinerant Bible man as Ben travelled extensively in northern BC for the Canadian Bible Society. Vera had to put into practice lessons learned from observing her mother’s dependence on the Lord. After having embraced Canada as their home country , the whole family was welcomed as official Canadian citizens in 1977.
In 1989 Ben and Vera finally settled in Kelowna where Vera enjoyed working for a local chiropractor as receptionist until her retirement.
They were welcomed into the KBC church family where Vera was an active member attending all the meetings and activities. As a couple they enjoyed many happy years of fellowship with other couples of their age and interest. Vera also enjoyed the women’s ministries, Bible study and missionary prayer group. She was a prayer warrior! She made many lovely friends in that group which she fully enjoyed until health prevented her active participation.
Although her sister Jenefer lived in Ireland, Vera maintained close ties with her and spoke often of her conversations on the phone and laterally communications on the computer. A skill which she learned in her senior years. Jenefer was someone with whom she could let her beautiful soft Irish broghe flow.
Vera is survived by her husband Ben and her five children along with grandchildren and her sister Jenefer and husband John O’Dowd in Ireland.
She will be deeply missed especially by Ben and her Kelowna Bible Chapel family and friends.
