Violet Mary McEwan McKelvie

In loving memory, we mourn the loss of Violet McKelvie (nee Latona), a beloved wife, who shared 57 years of marriage with her husband, John Graham McKelvie. On August 3, 2023, Violet passed away peacefully in Kelowna, BC, with her daughters by her side, after bravely fighting a long battle with cancer. She leaves behind precious memories in the hearts of her surviving family members, including her daughters, Alison and Gail, her son-in-law, Brad, and her adored grandchildren, Evan (Taylor), Riana, Reed, and Gracie. Violet is also survived by her dear sister, Aileen Latona, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Violet's journey began in Doune, Scotland, on April 3, 1944. She was the eldest child of Ferguson and Isobel Latona. Growing up on The Isle of Arran, Scotland, she later embarked on a new chapter in life, immigrating to Canada alongside her husband Graham after their marriage on September 21, 1965.

Throughout her life, Violet had an unwavering passion for flowers, and she found great joy in arranging them. Additionally, she and Graham shared an active interest in Scottish Deerhounds, spending many fulfilling years with these cherished companions. After retiring, they indulged in their love for travel, creating many memories together with family and friends.

In accordance with Violet’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Emily Botting, caregiver Jennifer and the compassionate staff at the Kelowna Hospice House for their exceptional care and kindness during Violet's last few weeks.
