William Davies, or just plain Bill for short, was born on the prairies in 1934 in Empress Alberta. Bill’s Mother and Father have both passed on, and is survived by his brother, George whose family, two nephews, Ken and Alan, and a niece, Kim, made up his immediate family. Grandchildren are Margaret and Ali from Ken, Alex from Alan and Calvin from Kim. Other members of the extended family added to his life.
Bill attended school on the prairies until the end of WWII when Mom and Dad moved the family to Ocean Falls, a papermaking town on the west coast of BC. This was a big change from the small villages they had lived in. In 1950, Bill completed High School and moved to Vancouver to learn a trade as an electrician. He made friends there that he kept for the balance of his life.
Bill joined the Air Force for several years and then resigned to take work on the DEW Line. Flush with cash from the North, he took an extended motor cycle holiday in England and Europe. Rejoining the working world, he spent several years as a store clerk in Ottawa and then in Rutland where he joined his parents in a hardware store. He subsequently found work s a copier technician working in Kelowna until his retirement.
Bill always had a great interest in photography and music. He joined the Kelowna Camera Club and was its president for several years. He was a strong advocate of black and white photography and untainted pictures. Bill was a self-taught expert in classical music and the opera. For many years he contributed his expertise to the Kelowna Seniors’ Study group.
Bill died peacefully in his sleep at the Kelowna General Hospital on November 14, 2014.
There will be a celebration of his life on Saturday, November 29, starting at 2:00 pm at First Memorial Funeral Services
