Mrs. Bertha LaVerne Thornton

Laverne was born April 14, 1933, in Denton County to Gertie Lee Hammons and Jesse Lonzo Duncan and died Oct. 14, 2014. She worked for Minyard Food Stores in Dallas and sold Avon for 40 yrs. She enjoyed helping and giving to others. She was an active member at First Baptist Church of Gun Barrel City since 1988. Laverne was preceded in death by her loving husband Robert Ervin Thornton of 59 years. She was survived by her son Jeff Thornton and wife Mary, Tool, Tx.; Debbie Mitchell and husband Ken, Ormond Beach, Fl. and step-son Robert Douglas Thornton and wife Virginia, Lompoc, Calif. Grandchildren Jessica Thornton Geneva, Christina Capehart Farrell, Donna Thornton French, Jeffrey Thornton, Levi Thornton, Carly Thornton, Cheryl Thornton, Lara Thornton Tucker, great grandchildren Dell Geneva, Lauryl and Emma French, Tilitha, Alexas, Jaydyn, Ariel, and Mila Coombs; Chelsea, Savannah, Ashley, Kyle, Kaitlin, Jason, Elaina, Xavier, Madalyn, Anberlin and great great grandchildren Kaylee Mae and Anabele, along with a host of family and friends.
