Roger Dale Bruner, resident of Kemp, Texas Styx Community passed away August 9, 2014 after a short battle with cancer. He was at home with family and friends. Roger was born in Henderson County Texas on June 10, 1945. He lived his entire life in and near Kemp.
He is survived by his wife Shirley of 51 years, two sons Emory Dale Bruner and wife Kathy of Kemp, Jeff Bruner of Kemp and daughter Shannah Greenlee of Kemp. Grandchildren Lacey Oldenkamp and husband Dustin of Kemp, Dale Greenlee and wife Whitney of Payne Springs, Aaron Bruner of Kemp, Kindra Helton and husband Shane of Kemp, Boomer (Emery) Bruner of Alaska and Brandi Bruner of Kemp. Great-grandchildren Austin and Monica Oldenkamp, Brendon and Paxton Greenlee and Greenleigh Helton. His brothers Lloyd (Jr) Bruner of Kemp, Billy Jack Bruner and wife Charlotte of Kemp (Styx), Mark Bruner and wife Kay of Kemp. As well as a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceding him in death his parents Lloyd Bruner Sr. and Esther Haley Bruner, sisters Connie Shaw, Bonnie Wood, Geneva (Mikkie) Miller, brother Billy Ray Bruner.
He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge 734, Mabank, 32 degree Scottish Rite Valley of Dallas. Past Worshipful Master of Kemp and Past Worthy Patron of Kemp order of Eastern Star.
He was employed for 26 years with Kaufman County Road and Bridge Precint 4 in Kemp, Texas as a foreman. Prior to that 7 Up Bottling Company, Miller High Life and Coors as a Route Man. As a mechanic RA Duncan and also Harvey’s Exxon prior to going to work for the County.
His hobbies were fishing, hunting at Centerville and Fairfield, Texas. He was a gardener, he loved to plant a garden. He was a collector of inventory he said planning on retirement. He fixed bikes for kids, lawn mowers for the ones that didn’t have one, helped repair carburetors on cars for many, no charge just parts. Most of all enjoyed spending time and spoiling grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved people, loved life and lived life fully. He never met a stranger. Finally retired.
