
Tom was born on October 20, 1933 in Styx, TX to parents Walter Hutcheson and Mary Belle and entered into rest on August 3, 2014 at the age of 80. Tom graduated from Kemp High School in 1952 and went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture from East Texas State University after returning from duty in The United States Army, serving as a Quarter Master during the Korean War. He was an honorary lifetime member of the FFA and PTA as well as receiving The 25+ Year Service Award from the Vocational Ag Teachers Association. Tom helped form and served as President of the Kemp Riding Club and always loved riding horses and working cattle. He taught agriculture at James Bowie High School in Simms, TX from 1966-1984 and Kemp High School from 1985-1992. He was a pioneer in Simms, trading and bartering veterinarian and ag services along with earning the community’s first fire truck through his fundraising efforts. Upon his retirement, James Bowie High School dedicated the “Tom Hutcheson Community Agri Building” in his honor. Tom enjoyed vegetable gardening in his later years and was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. He was a very loving and caring man who will be missed by all who knew him. Tom was preceded in death by his parents and niece Sebrina McFaul. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Norma Hutcheson of Kemp, daughters; Cindy Svoboda and husband Johnny of Kemp, June Gilbert and husband Jerry of Kemp, grandchildren; Bryan Svoboda and wife Charree’ of Houston, Matthew Gilbert, Jacob Gilbert and Tyler Gilbert, sisters; Betty Atherton and husband Frank of Kemp and Mary McFaul a host of friends.
