Sister Alice Williams, active in the field of medical records for 40 years, died Monday in Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, Williamsville, after a short illness. She was 82.
Born in Buffalo, Sister entered the Sisters of St. Joseph in Sept. 1952 and pronounced her final vows in Aug. 1960. She earned degrees from Mount St. Joseph College (now Medaille College)—a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1965 and a Master of Science in Education in 1971. She taught middle and upper grades in diocesan schools in Buffalo, Attica, Niagara Falls, Salamanca and Lackawanna for 18 years.
Desiring to work in the medical field, Sister Alice studied medical records administration at Rosary Hill College (now Daemen College). Earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1974, she began a 40-year career at Our Lady of Victory Hospital, Lackawanna, NY. After five years as medical librarian she became Assistant Director of Medical records. She accepted the position of Director of the Medical Records Department in 1989. Following the hospital’s closing in 2003, she served as the Health Information Coordinator at the Sisters of St. Joseph Residence until her death.
Sister ministered as cantor for liturgies and other celebrations at the Sisters Residence.
She is survived by Sister Susan, her sister.
A Mass of Christian burial will be offered Saturday at 10 a.m.in the Sisters Residence, 4975 Strickler Road, Clarence.
