Aunt Barb, I am so grateful for the time that I was blessed to know you. You fought so bravely and were so strong. I will always admire your strength and determination. Being your neighbor for 2 years was so fun, talking with you through the window and stopping you in your car as you drove by will always be fond memories. Josh and I will especially miss seeing you on our walks. He talks about you and Uncle Don all the time! Thank you for being such a sweet aunt and reminding us that life is a gift. We love you and miss you always!

Dear Aunt Barb,

It's still hard to believe you are gone. I have thought about you a lot since you have left us and have been reminded by you in little things I do. I will always remember you helping me with Math and always pushing me when I wanted to give up. I remember sitting upstairs in Grandmas house and doing homework with you on the table in my room or going to your house. You taught me how to play Black Jack and golf, two of your favorite things. Of all the memories I have, I will always remember how happy you were when we went on the boat. 

I am glad your not suffering anymore and that you are looking down and watching over all of us. We miss you and love you!

Aunt B. you will always be in my heart and will always be missed. Even though you are not here in the physical world i know you are with me everyday by your spirit. I am blessed to have an angel like you guiding me through my life. You are someone I am able to look up to and I am very proud to call you my aunt.
You and Uncle Don are like mine and Tess's grandparents. You both have offered us special times on the boat, in Florida and when you both would come over to stop by and play cards. I will always remember you bring chips and dip, root beer and a cheese plate to family events ( those were my favorite) . Aunt B. there is so much more I can say but most importantly, I hope your suffering is gone up in heaven and i know you are with my mom everyday with the signs she receives from you. You will never be forgot. I love you and miss you.

It is hard to find all the words to tell you what you meant to me.  You were always there with an encouraging word and positive thoughts even when you were going though so much for so long.  I will always remember the great times we all had together.  Tubing off the back of the boat, playing cards ,celebrating birthdays and holidays with you and Don and always having  fun when we were together. You will never be forgotten and will always be loved .  I miss you .

  You treated me as a child of yours, you were always there for me and you always made it clear how much you loved and cared about me and for that I am forever greatful. I love and miss you everyday but I will always hold the memories created in my heart, from all the days on your and uncle Don's boat to playing cards with you as the dealer! Thank you for being such a great God Mother to me. You always made sure you were there for me. For my christening, communion, baby shower, and many holidays, birthdays and times to visit Grayson. Although we didn't live close you were always close to my family. Thank you for being such a great sister to my mother, you were someone she would come to in hard times and could always count on you for advice and words of wisdom. You may not be here physically but I know you will always be with us in our hearts and watching over us.

To my Dear Sister Barb. You were always there for me. I remember helping you study to be a teacher! We put up bulletin boards at Nardin and had lunch together at Meadow school.I visited you and Don in Ohio.I was your Maid of Honor and was very honored to be chosen.We talked everyday.You always had the right advice. To my Aunt Barbara who was the light in so many people's lives- 
I remember when I was like 7 years old and I hated math, you would always help me with my homework and make it fun... (And bring me gummy bears). You were at every major event in me, my sister's and my nephew's lives even if it meant missing an important event in yours. I knew I could always call you if I had a problem or if my mom did and you would never judge us, you would just help us as best as you could. I hope you know how much that meant to us. I will miss our long talks on the phone and I will be looking for signs that let me know you're happy. I know you are up in heaven with Grandpa telling him everything that's happened down here, laughing and having fun, free of pain and worry. You were a fighter, and I hope at some point I can find a fraction of the strength you had your entire life. Thank you for everything you have done for our family and being an amazing Aunt to me. You will never be forgotten. I love you and tell Grandpa I love him too<3

We will miss you so much. We will never forget your love for boating, golf, cards, humor, Florida, your straightforwardness, and your love. You will be missed.

My dear Barbara. My heart is breaking. Only you and I knew the burden of this disease and the toll of what it takes on you, your spirit, your body and your soul. I wanted to tell everyone at your funeral how brave you were and how scared you were. I wanted to tell everyone how you loved your life and your family and most of all your husband.  We often said to eachother that knowing our predisposition to cancer could be a gift.Maybe we could control our destiny and change our fate. I believe in my heart by taking that test I might have given you some extra years on this earth.  I thanked God for that everyday. What I can't understand is why you had to suffer so much. Someday I will have that answer. Until then I will pray for you everyday and keep your memory in my heart. Rest my dear sister. Grow your hair in heaven, golf all day, gamble when you want and know that I loved you and I'm so sorry .

I will always remember my sister Barb for a lot of things. She was so proud of her 66 red mustang, that she bought all by herself and  she drove for many years back and forth to college. she paved the way for all of us to pursue college degrees with encouragement from Mom and Dad. Barb  obtained a masters degree in education and also met a wonderful guy  named Don Hain. Sparks flew and they were married after they both graduated. Like all young married couples they had a rough start but through Barbs fiscal management and Dons hard labor they bought a property remodeled it, lived in it eventually rented it and then moved on to buy a home in Lancaster. To us they were the pioneers and an example to follow. Barb loved golf and tried to get me out. She missed her calling there. She would of been a professional golfer if she would of started earlier. Don of course would of been her caddy.

Mrs. Hain was hands down one of my favorite teachers. I will cherish her lessons forever. I can only hope there are blackjack tables in heaven.

To Don: I lived across the street from the Palkas. My mom still does. Barbara and I spent many evening together when we were preteens talking, riding our bikes, and doing whatever we did as kids back then. We grew up, she married you and I moved away. However, whenever we both happened to be back "home" we always spent some time talking and catching up. My mom and I want you to know how sorry we are for your loss and how fondly we remember Barbara. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
