

Jayne "Judy" Calongne Wadsworth, age 82, died at home on September 10, 2024 in Kenmore, New York. She was the eldest daughter of the late Romain Girard Fauconne de Calongne and Dorothy Calongne (nee Villarrubia). She was born in New Orleans and attended Ursuline Academy. She raised her family in Metairie, Louisiana where she taught sewing classes in her home and later worked as a professional seamstress. After her divorce and her children had grown, Judy moved to Boulder, Colorado where she spent time with a community of Benedictine contemplative nuns at the Abbey of St. Walburga. She lived for a year at Madonna House, a lay Catholic community in Combermere, Ontario, Canada. There she met her longtime spiritual director, Father David May. At Madonna House she committed her life in prayer and service to Christ. After leaving Madonna House, she worked with several religious communities including as a companion for retired priests at the Jesuit Community at Wernersville, Pennsylvania. She moved to Western New York to be near family. She completed a bachelor’s degree in social services from SUNY Empire State College. Before retiring, she cooked in the rectory of St. Andrew’s Parish in Tonawanda, New York.
Judy was predeceased by her sister, Linda S. Calongne. She is survived by her brother Gerard E. Calongne and sister Therese C. Simoneaux (James); her children Gregory J. Wadsworth (Jack Byrnes), Christopher J. Wadsworth and Kimberly W. Robbins (Doug); her grandchildren Jessica Lemoine, Justin Strauss, Elizabeth Wadsworth (Patrick Hunt), Caitlin Marquez (Gabriel), Christopher Wadsworth, Jr., Sarah Loper (Matthew), Zachary Robbins, Jakob Robbins, and Justin Robbins; and her great-grandchildren Landon Dinger, Preston Necaise and Addison Loper. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home and Cemeteries, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA, 70124 on Saturday September 28, 2024 at 10am followed by Interment.
