Beloved husband of Kathryn (nee Jolles) Smith; loving father of Kaleb Smith; son of Gordon and Lorraine Smith; brother of Melody Altamura, Michael (Ginny) Smith, and Matthew (Ashley) Smith; cherished uncle of three nieces and four nephews.
Mark was raised in Corning, New York, and attended Corning East High School where he was a great friend to all who had the good luck of meeting him, a lover of animals, and stand-out athlete in multiple sports. After high school, Mark earned his Bachelor and Masters degrees at Alfred University. While at Alfred, he starred on the football team and made lifelong friends through his fraternity, Delta Sigma Phi – Alpha Zeta chapter, and with his beloved dogs Onyx and Ed. Mark went on to obtain his Juris Doctor through the University at Buffalo where he met his wife, Katie. Mark graduated at the top of his law school class while winning multiple awards for his academic performance and community involvement. He began his legal career as a bankruptcy attorney at one of the top law firms in the world. From his midtown Manhattan office, he worked on many high-profile matters including the largest bankruptcy in history. Mark and Katie moved to Rochester and later Buffalo where Mark continued his legal practice, specializing in corporate law.
Mark Smith made many friends throughout his life, who all helped to shape the man he became. He will forever be remembered for his love of all those around him, his smile, his laugh, the way he made a stranger feel welcome. His indomitable spirit and the impact he had on all those that knew him are unparallelled. We are heartbroken at the loss of such a wonderful man but know that he will forever remain in our hearts.
