Raymond A. Caruana, of Tonawanda, NY, died peacefully on May 1, 2020 surrounded by his family. Beloved husband of 37 years of Linda A. Caruana (nee Kluge), loving father of Alan (Lisa), Kathryn (Daniel) Cave, Nick (Kim), Christopher and Emily Caruana, dearest grandfather of Sam, Lia, Natalie and Jack; brother of the late Angeline Stanko, Anthony & Frank Caruana, Rosemarie Ferger and Marian Murphy; survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Ray was born in 1943 in Buffalo, NY to the late Frank and Frances (DiGennaro) Caruana. Ray graduated from St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute and the University at Buffalo with a Master’s degree in Education. He worked for the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles for many decades before retiring in 2003. Ray taught Driver Education at ECC and worked to develop the Stop DWI program. After retirement, Ray found solace in helping other cancer patients in his position as a Patient Navigator at Roswell Park, where he cherished many friendships with colleagues, and enjoyed substitute teaching in the Ken-Ton School District for several years. In days of better health, Ray could be found riding his bike miles from home on a beautiful day, having breakfast with his friends, building an addition onto his family’s home, or driving his Karmann Ghia convertible. A memorial service will be held at St. Joseph University Church, September 4th at 11:00 AM, to honor such a life well-lived.
