Ruth M. Steegmann

Ruth M. (nee Kamrass) Steegmann, of Pendleton, entered into rest on October 19, 2023 at age 90. Beloved wife of Ted Steegmann Jr.; devoted mother of Catherine (Thomas) Vandor and Thomas (Cynthia) Steegmann; cherished grandmother of Rachael and Samuel Steegmann; loving daughter of the late George and Fannie Kamrass; dear sister of the late Eugene (Dolores) Kamrass; also survived by loving nieces and nephews and many dear friends and colleagues. Ruth contributed greatly to her field as a School Psychologist, serving as Publications Chair, Archivist, and Presenter for the New York State Association of School Psychologists for many years, and was honored with the Gil Trachtmann Leadership Award in School Psychology in 2004. This award was given in recognition of her contribution to her field for her acts of service, including teaching, research, and supervision. Ruth's supervision style was reflective of her values, as she was thorough and demanding, but also warm and nurturing. Her family remembers her enthusiasm for classical music, and her commitment to excellence, as she had a weekly piano lesson from her childhood right up through the last few weeks of her life, studying for 80 years in total. She was also a superb cook, and she created gourmet meals nightly, for her family and friends, for all of her life. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
