On Monday, December 12, 2022, Alma "Jean" Gross, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and child of God passed away at the age of 81. Jean was born on February 26, 1941, in Greensboro, North Carolina, to the late Frank and Alma Sansbury Simmons.
Jean was a woman of love, she loved popcorn, ice cream, her family, and Jesus. She will be remembered for always knowing your name, a beautiful smile to brighten your day, and the songs she sang about everything. Jean was met by our Lord and Savior while surrounded by friends and family as we prayed, sang hymns of praise, and said lots of, "I love yous."
Jean graduated from Bass High School in Atlanta. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Frankie Simmons Brummitt, and by her brother, Bill Simmons.
Jean married the love of her life, Thomas Gross, and this past year, they celebrated sixty-two years of marriage. Jean is the mother of three children, Tom Gross, Mike Gross, and Jeanine Gross Floyd. She also loved her daughters-in-law, Paula Spratt Gross and Kirsten Shafer Gross, and her son-in-law, Marc Floyd. She was the grandmother of eight grandchildren: Marcus Floyd, Morgan Floyd, Meagan Gross, Hannah Gross, Reagan Gross, Hannah Floyd, Lee Owens, and Nathan Harvey; a great-grandmother to Emerson Daly Floyd. She is survived by her sister, Sandra Simmons Ganzel Friedlander, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews that she loved very much.
A gathering of friends for Alma "Jean" will be held Saturday, December 17, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Acworth United Methodist Church, 4340 Collins Circle, Acworth, GA 30101. A funeral service will occur Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 2:00 PM, at the church. A time of fellowship will follow the memorial service on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at the church, following the memorial service.
