

Barbara Jane McMichen Benson passed away on July 16, 2025. Born in Cartersville, Georgia, on October 5, 1947, she was the daughter of late Horace Calvin McMichen and late Mildred Chitwood McMichen. She was pre-deceased by her brothers, William H. McMichen, Ray D. McMichen, Sr., and sisters Dorothy M. Teems, Frankie McMichen, and Jan McMichen Bode.
Barbara was a retired Federal Civil Servant whose career spanned four decades, during which she served in various capacities at the U.S. Navy, Defense Contract Administration Services Region (DCASR), Environmental Protection Administration, Veteran’s Administration, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in several metro Atlanta locations as well as in Texas. Her residence in Acworth, Georgia, for the past 16 years has been a cherished chapter in her life.
A devout Christian, Barbara was an active member of Mars Hill Presbyterian Church, where she has served as an elder and was a member of the choir, and held other positions of service to the church throughout the years. Her passion for travel, particularly to Europe, led her to embark on numerous memorable trips and cruises.
Barbara joined the Liberty Hill Chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in 2009, where she was the current Chaplain. She served as the DAR Good Citizen Chair, a State position from 2022-2024. Barbara was a member of the General PMB Young Chapter of United Daughters of the Confederacy (UDC) in Cartersville, GA where she previously served as Chapter President and Chaplain.
Barbara is survived by her devoted husband of 35 years, Charles A. Benson; her beloved sister, Gay McMichen Caswell; nieces Karen McMichen Bryant, Holli McInnes Wallace, and Gretchen Bode Moore; nephews Ray McMichen, Steve McMichen, David McMichen, Mark Teems, Conrad Bode, and twenty great nieces and nephews all of whom she loved deeply and held in a special place in her heart; and her cherished Miniature Schnauzer, Einstein.
Visitation will be held at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home in Kennesaw on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. The funeral service will be conducted at Mars Hill Presbyterian Church, 3385 Mars Hill Road, NW, Acworth, GA 30101, on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at 10:00 AM with Pastor Will Shurley and Pastor Bryant Harris officiating, with a reception at the church following the service. A private family committal service will take place at Georgia National Cemetery following the service.
