She was married to the love of her life and best friend, Dr. Robert “Bob” Lee Carlson, for 67 wonderful years. Together, they built a beautiful life rooted in faith, family, and adventure. A devoted member of Redeemer Lutheran Church of Atlanta for over 40 years, Betty lived her life guided by her close and personal relationship with God.
Betty attended Augustana College in Rock Island, IL, where she earned her bachelor’s degree, and later became a proud member of the Georgia Tech Women’s Aerospace Club. Deeply proud of her Swedish heritage, she treasured the trips she and Bob took to Sweden to connect with family and celebrate her roots.
Betty had a joyful and curious spirit. She loved puzzles, playing bridge, reading, and traveling with Bob. Most of all, she cherished time spent with her grandchildren and her family, who were the center of her world. Her social nature and warm smile made her a friend to many, and she delighted in meeting new people and sharing life with those around her.
In her later years, she especially enjoyed the community and friendships she found while living at Celebration Village. Betty’s life was one of love, faith, and connection, and she will be remembered for the kindness, joy, and warmth she brought to all who knew her.
Betty is survived by her sons, David Carlson & wife Shawn, Richard Carlson & wife Yelena, and Robert Carlson, Jr. & wife Suki; daughters, Karen Goddard, and Carol Rekoske & husband Randy; twelve grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Dr. Robert “Bob” Lee Carlson.
