Billy Ray Wood
July 13, 1937 – December 4, 2018
Billy Ray Wood, age 81, of Acworth, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, December 4, 2018. Billy was born on July 13, 1937, in Carrollton, Mississippi, to James and Viola Wood.
Shortly after high school, Billy followed in his friends' footsteps and joined the United States Air Force and served for the next nine years. While he was in the military, he was able to travel and enjoyed the different places the military took him. In 1959, he met Joyce Givens and on March 12, 1960, they were married. They spent the next fifty-six years together before her passing in 2016.
Billy enjoyed watching sports, football being one of his favorite. He also enjoyed spending his time outside in the yard or being in his garden. Billy was very genuine and a good role model for his children and thoroughly enjoyed being a father. He also was a member of The American Legion, Post 304.
Billy is survived by sons, Bobby Wood and Mark Wood.
Billy was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Wood; daughter, Shari Wood; father, James Emmit Wood; mother, Viola Wood; sisters, Lucille Fleming, Marie Smith and Betty Farrar.
A visitation for Billy will be held Sunday, December 9, 2018 from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM at Woodstock Church of Christ, 219 Rope Mill Rd, Woodstock, Georgia 30188. A memorial service will occur Sunday, December 9, 2018 at 2:00 PM, 219 Rope Mill Rd, Woodstock, Georgia 30188. A committal service and inurnment will follow on Monday, December 10, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Georgia National Cemetery, 1080 Scott Hudgens Drive, Canton, Georgia 30114.
