Charles was drafted and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He was stationed in Germany, and didn’t see combat in Vietnam, but he was a proud American and willingly served his country. Charles met and married Jeanne in Miami, Florida and there they began their life together. They had one child (Shawna) and enjoyed a love filled life together before moving to Georgia permanently in 1996.
In 2006 Charles endured many health struggles, as well as the loss of his beloved wife. Shortly after her passing, and a cancer diagnosis, he moved to live with his daughter and her family. They spent almost 17 years enjoying their life filled with big love. Charles, proudly, became sober on July 6, 2016, and recently enjoyed his 7th “birthday”. Charles was proud to serve, in any capacity, with his local Alcoholics Anonymous group and there he forged many new friendships. He was honored to serve and mentor his brothers and sisters at AA.
From daughter, Shawna Page
One of the kindest souls on this planet, my daddy was a gentle, giving man who worked tirelessly to ensure that his family had everything they needed, and most of what they wanted. If he could, he built things himself and was very skilled with his hands, whether it was building shelves, tables, or working on cars, if something needed to be done… my daddy could do it He was our carpenter, fix it man, electrician, our mechanic and my mamas and my hero! In earlier years, he enjoyed shooting pool and bowling, playing Pinochle or Spades, fishing, and big family get togethers. Most recently he enjoyed occasional trips to Cherokee with his brother, serving his AA group, and visiting family in Florida and South Georgia. Daddy, the epitome of the strong, silent type, faced every challenge in life with admirable strength, dignity, courage and class. His love of family and zest for life was unmatched.
My daddy was a true role model and someone I will always look up to. To say I am proud and honored to be his daughter is an understatement. The legacy of love he and my mama leave behind is awe inspiring.
Daddy, you are now home in the arms of Jesus, and at peace, but you will live on forever in our hearts. I love you more, and most, I win. Rest in sweet peace.
