It is with deep sadness and profound gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Christopher "Chris" Rice on June 22, 2026. Chris departed this world with his beloved wife, Mercedes, faithfully by his side, just as she had been throughout their remarkable journey together.
Born in the United Kingdom to Hugh and Thora Rice, Chris was a man whose life was marked by faith, love, hard work, and devotion to family. On his 18th birthday, Chris inherited a sum of money that he used to pursue his entrepreneurial dream. With determination and vision, he founded Altarus Records, a company he proudly owned and operated for the next 45 years. His dedication, integrity, and passion for music helped build a lasting legacy that touched countless lives.
Chris shared an extraordinary love story with his best friend and soulmate, Mercedes Rice. The two met through a mutual friend, and Chris often said it was love at first sight. Mercedes lovingly described him as her "Prince Charming." Together, they enjoyed 25 beautiful years of marriage filled with laughter, companionship, unwavering support, and deep affection. Chris never missed an opportunity to tell Mercedes, "I love you," and he lovingly referred to her as his "Sweetie Wife."
A man of strong faith, Chris maintained a personal relationship with God throughout his life. He and Mercedes faithfully worshipped together at Saint Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Kennesaw, Georgia, where their shared faith strengthened the foundation of their marriage and family life.
Chris found joy in life's simple and beautiful moments. He had a profound appreciation for classical music, loved preparing meals for those he cared about, and cherished traveling with Mercedes. Among their most treasured adventures were their time together in Venice and their trips to the United Kingdom to visit his mother. Wherever they traveled, they carried with them a deep appreciation for one another and the experiences they shared.
Known for his warm heart, quick wit, generosity, and sense of humor, Chris was a loving husband, devoted father, proud step-grandfather, caring friend, and dependable provider. He treasured time spent with his family, especially his beloved step-granddaughters, and delighted in gathering with both his and Mercedes' extended families. His kindness, laughter, and genuine concern for others left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Chris is survived by his loving wife, Mercedes Rice; his son, Hugh Rice; two stepsons; one stepdaughter; five cherished step-granddaughters; and a wealth of step-nieces, step-nephews, step-cousins, and dear friends who will forever hold his memory in their hearts.
Though his presence will be deeply missed, Chris leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, devotion, and kindness that will continue to inspire all who knew him. His life reminds us that true success is measured not by accomplishments alone, but by the love we share and the lives we touch along the way.
