Curt was born on June 28, 1961, in Brick Township, New Jersey, to Stanley and Joyce Clayton. He attended Brick Township High School, where he developed a lifelong passion for hockey. As a member of the school’s hockey team, Curt and his teammates celebrated a remarkable achievement during his junior year in 1977, winning both the Hockey State Champion Cup and the coveted Gordon Cup.
After high school, Curt attended Ocean County College, where he continued playing hockey. It was there that he met the love of his life, Cindy. Curt and Cindy built a beautiful life together and shared 42 wonderful years of marriage filled with love, laughter, and unwavering partnership.
Together they raised two loving children, Courtney and Conor. As a family of four, they created countless cherished memories, especially during holiday trips back to New Jersey and countless family vacations. In recent years Curt’s favorite trips included the family’s annual trip to Nashville to watch their beloved Tampa Bay Lightning play. Family meant everything to Curt, and the time spent together was always his greatest joy.
Curt spent 40 years working in the scaffolding access industry and built a respected career in sales and training with Bee Access. He loved his work and took great pride in helping his customers succeed. Known for his incredible work ethic, honesty, and trustworthy nature, Curt had a natural ability to connect with people and built lasting relationships throughout his career.
Outside of work, Curt embraced life with enthusiasm. He was a long-time member of the Cobblestone Men’s Golf Association (CMGA), where he enjoyed many years on the course with friends. He also had a deep love for hockey that extended far beyond playing—he proudly coached his son in youth hockey leagues, sharing his passion with the next generation. His favorite professional team was the New York Rangers.
Curt enjoyed traveling with Cindy and their family, tending to his yard and garden, keeping the family cars spotless, and maintaining the pristine home he took such pride in. One of his favorite hobbies was caring for his aquatic fish tanks—what began as a small hobby introduced by Cindy quickly grew into a full-blown passion.
Above all else, Curt treasured time with his grandchildren. He loved teaching them how to play golf, sharing stories, and creating the same special memories he cherished with his own children. The Clayton family will forever hold dear the moments spent bonding over hockey and their beloved trips.
Curt is survived by his devoted wife, Cindy Clayton; daughter, Courtney Hensler and her husband, Kenyon; son, Conor Clayton; sisters, Linda Nesta and her husband, Steve, and Kathie Mostyn and her husband, Don, and brother, Larry Clayton and his wife Marilyn; step-mother, Pat Clayton; step-brother, David Isbrecht and his wife, Gracie; step-sister, Judy Albrecht and her husband, Bob; grandchildren, Piper Hensler, Brice Hensler, and Asher Clayton; and his faithful companion, his beloved black lab, Hank. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends whose lives he touched.
Curt will be remembered for his kindness, dedication to family, strong work ethic, and the joy he brought to those around him.
The family kindly asks that in honor of Curt, you wear blue to the service, if you are able.
