Curtis Lynn Cogbill passed away on October 26, 2025, at the age of 74. Born on July 26, 1951, in Eustis, Florida, Curtis was a devoted and hard-working family man who touched the lives of many and worked tirelessly to change his family tree.
Curtis met Charlyn Blackwelder at the ripe age of 17. He spent the next year making her laugh at the football games and squiring her and her siblings around in his car. She waited for him to ask her to her senior prom, even turning down another boy so she could go with Curtis, the cute boy that made her laugh so much. They were married in the St. George Utah Temple on January 11,1972 after surviving a cross country road trip with his future mother in law (no wonder they lasted 53 years). They have spent their lives together raising 6 children turning his hair gray earlier than most.
Curtis had a passion for anything sports related including anything FSU Seminoles; playing golf with his friends George, Hilton, Mike and Richard; attending Braves games with Martin, and attending his kids’ and grandkids’ events. During his free time, Curtis enjoyed spending time with life-long friends, Kent and Randy. He obsessed about having the perfect yard (he did), addressing (semi-)necessary house projects and walking the aisles of Costco – for only the essentials, of course. His passion was being with his family … and, when they weren’t together, “just calling to check in.”
Curtis was the best in the US at electrical wiring and could install a ceiling fan by himself in 30 minutes. He enjoyed helping others and sacrificed with ample amounts of complaining. He also loved volunteering and attending the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Throughout his life he was a clerk, served in the bishopric, worked with the young single adults and youth, and served as a weekly temple worker. Curtis’s true calling, however, was working with the young children in primary.
Curtis is survived by his wife, Charlyn Cogbill, and his children: Joshua Cogbill, Danielle Cogbill, Nathan Cogbill (Cassie), Adam Cogbill (Melynn), Matthew Cogbill (Leslie), and Brittany Naumann (Drew). He was a cherished grandfather to 18 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Curtis is also survived by his sisters, Lisa Wood and Becky Cogbill. He was predeceased by his father, John Cogbill, his mother, Mildred Baxter, and his brother, Ricky Cogbill.
Curtis will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on November 8, 2025, at 10:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 3155 Trickum Rd, Marietta, GA 30066.
Curtis will be laid to rest at Pine Ridge Memorial Park, 2950 Cobb Parkway North, Kennesaw, GA 30152.
