Darel was devoted to his wife, Anne Traylor. They were married on September 9, 1961 and spent the next fifty-seven years together before her passing.
During the Korean War, Darel served four years in the United States Air Force before mustering out as a Technical Staff Sargent. He then worked for Allison, a division of General Motors, before landing at Lockheed. He worked on the C130 project, training customers worldwide how to repair and maintain their aircraft, until his retirement. His work took him to every continent on the planet, including Antarctica.
Darel had many interests and managed to stay busy, even after retirement. He had a woodshop in his basement where he created projects that Anne had dreamed up and needed him to build. He loved to bring her home-grown tomatoes from his garden and delighted in growing a variety of peppers, from sweet to very hot. He was also an accomplished mechanic. Darel had a great sense of humor and loved to make everyone laugh. He preferred being at home, but would travel with Anne. During these travels, they would tour and see many places together.
He is survived by his son, Bryan (Yeta) Traylor; daughters, Melek (Dan) Owenby and Darya (Dale) James; brother, Gordon (Carolyn) Traylor; grandchildren, Cynthia (Kris) Donaldson, Cody Owenby, Wyatt Owenby, and Olivia Traylor; and a great-granddaughter, Sophia Salazar.
A memorial service to honor Darel Traylor will be held at Georgia National Cemetery, on July 5th, 2019 at one o’clock in the afternoon. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.winkenhoferpineridgefuneralhome.com
