Darrell Dean Smith, age 72, of Acworth, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026. Born on July 16, 1953, Dean lived a life defined by dedication, loyalty, love for his family, and unwavering strength of character.
Dean was the son of the late Henry and Dorothy Smith. He graduated from Walter F. George High School, where he met his high school sweetheart and future wife, Pamela O’Kelley Smith. The two were married on April 9, 1972, and shared many loving years together building a life centered around family, hard work, and cherished memories.
With steady dedication and a work ethic that never wavered, Dean built a long and respected career, working for 45 years as a sales manager for Better Brands and United Distributors. Throughout the many seasons of life, he met responsibilities with perseverance and quiet strength—qualities equally evident in the time he devoted to others as a coach of little league baseball, softball, and pee wee football.
Above all, Dean was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who never missed a game, school event, or important milestone. His constancy and care extended beyond his own household; he became like a parent to many of the childhood teammates and friends of his daughters, Misty Pharr and Tara Powell, offering encouragement, wisdom, and a dependable presence that left a lasting impact on countless young lives.
Dean also cherished the moments spent away from the routines of everyday life. He loved family vacations, especially trips to the beach, where some of his happiest memories were made. He enjoyed board games of every kind, was especially skilled at Uno, and never missed the opportunity to share laughter and friendly competition with those he loved. He was also a devoted fan of Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and rarely missed the chance to cheer on his team, especially during football season.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Dorothy Smith; his sisters, Sally and Sandra; and his beloved wife, Pamela Smith.
Dean is survived by his daughters, Misty Pharr and husband Tommy Pharr, and Tara Powell; his treasured grandchildren, Carson Powell and Reagan Pharr; and his siblings Sue, Linda, Buddy, Dale, Jeb, and Lisa, along with many extended family members, lifelong friends, former coworkers, players, and families whose lives were touched by his kindness and guidance.
Dean will be remembered for his unwavering devotion to family, his hard-working spirit, his generous heart, and the quiet but powerful way he showed up for the people he loved. His legacy will live on in the countless memories shared by those fortunate enough to know him.
