With deep love and sorrow, we share the passing of Edward Matthew Herman, who left this world on April 19, 2025, at the age of 91. Ed was a devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and the steady heart of our family. His life was defined by faith, resilience, and unconditional love.
Born on January 14, 1934, in Omaha, Nebraska, Ed’s journey began in the heart of the Midwest, where he would later meet the love of his life on a blind date—a moment that would shape the beautiful life they built together. Their love was deep, enduring, and inspiring to all who witnessed it.
Ed proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After his service, he returned home and earned a degree in Finance from Omaha University. He built a life rooted in devotion—to his family, his faith, and the values he held close.
He is survived by his children: Edward M. Herman Jr. (Marni), Teresa Shea (Jim), Joanne Podgorny, Sheila Lopez (Rick) and Paul Herman (Maggie). He also leaves behind 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, each one of whom he loved deeply and unconditionally. To him, family meant everything.
A devout Catholic, Ed’s faith was central to his life. He attended Mass as often as he could—sometimes daily—and was unwavering in his commitment to tithing, even during times when he had little to give. He was the kind of man whose presence brought peace, whose words offered wisdom, and whose heart was always open.
Those who knew Ed admired him deeply, not only for his kindness and faith but also for his courage, especially after the heartbreaking loss of our mother, Elizabeth, the love of his life. In the face of grief, he carried on with strength and determination, always believing in the goodness within us, always urging us to keep moving forward, one day at a time.
He will be remembered for always being there—for every one of us—and for loving us no matter what. That is the legacy he leaves behind: a legacy of love, unwavering faith, and quiet strength.
A Funeral Mass will be held to honor Edward’s life at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 87 Lacy St NW, Marietta, GA 30060, at 10:00 AM on Monday, April 28th, 2025. He will be laid to rest beside his beloved Elizabeth at Pineridge Memorial Park, 2950 Cobb Pkwy N, Kennesaw, GA 30152.
And that is what he would want us to do now: to carry on, to believe in the power of love and in the presence of God, and to live with the same grace and heart that he gave so freely to all of us.
Rest in peace, Dad. You were our rock. You always will be.
