Emily Mitchelson Williamson

Emily Katherine was born in Athens GA, second child to Sarah and Ron Mitchelson. Her early years were spent in Athens and Crawford GA. In 6th grade she moved with her family to Morehead KY, where she attended Rowan County Middle and High Schools. She was salutatorian of her graduating class. Then Emily moved to Greenville NC with her family. She graduated with honors in Psychology from East Carolina University. On March 17, 2007 Emily married James Read Williamson and his children, Tyler and Katie, became part of her immediate family. Emily and Read were married for 19 years.

Emily took great joy in helping Tyler and Katie grow into young adults.

On August 26, 2008 the family grew again with the birth of James Mitchel (Mitch) Williamson. On August 18, 2010 they welcomed another son, John Matthew (Matthew) Williamson. Emily would say her greatest accomplishment was raising her beloved children.

Emily also took great pride in her work at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Greenville, NC. As Parish Administrator, she embraced the congregation as her second family. Emily and Read were active members of St. Timothy’s.

Emily is survived by her husband, Read, and her children Katie, Mitch, Matthew, and Shaine (Nate) Laine (and newborn grandson, Hudson). She is also survived by her parents, Sarah and Ron Mitchelson; her brothers, Matt (Mary) Mitchelson of Kennesaw GA and John (Fernie) Mitchelson of Apex NC; her nieces Emma Hashimoto and Madeline Mitchelson; her nephews Liam Hashimoto and Luke Mitchelson; and her beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.

Emily was predeceased by her son, Tyler Williamson.

In 2022 Emily and Read moved to Kennesaw GA with their children. Emily had begun taking classes toward a certification in addiction counseling. She had planned to begin an internship at The Women’s Extension before her illness made plans change.
