Sod grew up on a farm in Iowa. He was drafted into the army at 18 years old, and spent time in Korea as an MP. After discharge from the Army, Sod attended school in Chicago to become a Machinist.
In 1951 he moved to Georgia and went to work for Lockheed Martin, a job he loved and never wanted to leave. Sod worked for Lockheed for more than sixty years, as a machinist and later an inspector. While working for Lockheed, Sod also worked part time jobs, Riches selling men's clothing, Arthur Murry's dance studio as an instructor, and for a Machine shop he would later own. For Many years he was a Santa Claus for Lockheed and for a tree farm.
Sod, over the years, has been a member of the Chamber of Commerce in Cobb County, City of Atlanta and Marietta. Sod had a passion for dance from childhood till the day he passed. He taught ballroom dancing, and was a member, dance instructor, soundman & caller with the Georgia State Square Dance Association from the 1950's until his death. Sod enjoyed traveling all over the country to dance events.
He was a generous man who worked hard, took care of his parents, his friends and was always willing to help anyone to help themselves.
