Frances Keith McCollum went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 13, 2019, after a 6-year battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerald McCollum in 2015, and is survived by her loving family and a host of wonderful, caring friends.
She was born in Cartersville, Georgia on August 5, 1932, and married the love of her life, Jerald on December 4, 1957. The couple lived in Chamblee, Georgia for a time, and later made Kennesaw their home. She was a member of Kennesaw First Baptist Church, where she was involved in a variety of ministries. She retired from Southern Bell on May 1, 1989, after 49 years of service. Although she had no formal education beyond high school, she became a well-respected, successful businesswoman. A bold, assertive and intelligent woman, at a time when that was not the norm, Fran acted as a negotiator between Southern Bell and the labor union, and though she never touted “women’s rights”, she quietly did her job and stood up for what was right, earning the respect of those with whom she worked.
A care-giver at heart, she was always looking for ways to help others, and she took to heart the Lord’s instruction to “pray without ceasing”. She was truly a Proverbs 31 woman. Hers is a testimony to a life well-lived.
Funeral services will be held at Winkenhoffer Kennesaw Funeral Home, 2950 North Cobb Parkway, Kennesaw 30152 on Monday, November 18, 2019 at 2:00 PM. Visitation on Monday, November 18 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Burial will be at the Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Cartersville, GA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Transitions Hospice Care, 610 Shorter Ave #9 Rome, GA 30165, 706-378-2273,
