

Gary proudly served in the United States Air Force for eight years, reflecting his deep sense of duty and commitment. After his military service, he built a long and respected career, retiring after 25 years with the Yancey Brothers. Gary was also a faithful member of Macland Baptist Church, where he served as a greeter – remembering every name and welcoming each person with genuine warmth.
A devoted husband and father, Gary is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Judy; his sons David (Tara) of Monroe, Ga and Mark (Lori) of Mesa, Az; and his brother, Dale Steffes of Post Falls, Id.
He was a proud grandfather to Caleb (Susanna) of St. Louis, Mo; Andrew (Samantha) of Pendergrass, Ga; Sarah Downer (Tyler) of Monroe, Ga; Jacob of Monroe, Ga; Joshua of Cicero, Il; Bethany Tacoronte (Kyle) of Port Washington, Wi; and Alexandra Brown (Grant) of Gilbert, Az, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Gary was preceded in death by his mother, Estelle Wilmot; his father, Edward Steffes; and his sister, Sally Rodd.
Gary loved the Lord, and his faith shaped the way he lived – steadfast, kind, and always attentive to the people around him. He coached both of his boys in baseball, creating memories that became treasured family stories. His legacy is one of service, love, and quiet strength.
Visitation will be held at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 2950 North Cobb Pkwy, Kennesaw, Georgia 30152, on July 17, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, followed by the Funeral Service at the same location from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm.
A Committal Service will take place at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park, 1861 Dallas Hwy, Marietta, GA 30064, on July 17, 2026, beginning at 1:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, in honor of Gary’s compassionate heart and lifelong love for children.
