George "Jerry" Gerald Zimmer

Jerry grew up in Cheektowaga, New York with his family, father Anthony Zimmer and mother Elva Zimmer, and his younger sister, Lynn. As a young man, he joined the Air Force during the Vietnam War and returned with a dream to become an engineer. He moved to Atlanta shortly after for a job with Lockheed Martin, staying in the avionics industry throughout his career. One weekend, his roommate said he was visiting his girlfriend in Sweetwater, Tennessee and asked if he was interested in going on a blind date with her sister, Mary. He said yes and it was the last first date either of them ever had.

In 1972 they were married at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church surrounded by friends and family. Their early years were filled with beach visits with close friends, trips to the lake, and enjoying long weekends away after work trips. In 1985, they had their one and only child, Brandy. Jerry was a devoted father who spent nights driving around the neighborhood playing Roy Orbison and Elvis Presley to get Brandy to sleep, afternoons teaching her how to throw and catch a softball, and weekends down at Deer Camp riding 4 wheelers and filling deer feeders.

Jerry enjoyed deer hunting with his hunting club, classic car shows, collecting records, working in his yard, family cabin weekends, and the occasional winery or brewery visit with Mary and Brandy. He was a member of St Catherine’s Catholic Church and over the last few years volunteered at St Vincent de Paul’s thrift store with close friends.

Jerry was a loyal and loving husband and father. He was known for his kindness, wit, and willingness to help others. He will be deeply missed.

Jerry is survived in death by his daughter, Brandy, sister, Lynn Zimmer and his loving friends and neighbors. A graveside service will take place for Jerry at 10:00 am on Friday, September 25, 2026, at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton.
