Gien Shin Chen, also known as “Charlie”, age 91, of Acworth, Georgia, passed away on November 6, 2018. Charlie was born in Yantai, China, on August 24, 1927 to the late Xin and Shi Chen.

When he was in middle school, he was forced to become a soldier for the Nationalist party in 1947. It would be many years later that he saw his siblings again. He eventually moved to Taiwan and met Shiow Yun Liu. They married in May of 1969. Taiwan is where he worked for the United States Naval Hospital. This was a turning point in his family’s life. When the United States Military was leaving Taiwan, they helped Charlie’s family leave and move to the United States to live together. In 1980, they moved to California for about a year, then settled in Georgia.

He enjoyed spending time outside doing yard work and helping Shiow with her fruit and vegetable gardens. He also enjoyed frequently shopping at Costco as well as Wal-Mart. Charlie was a hard and dedicated worker and it showed though his career paths. He worked at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel and was awarded employee of the month and the family was treated to their once famous Sunday brunch. He and Shiow decided to go into the restaurant business and ran China House in Acworth, Ga from 1985-2000.

He is preceded in death by four older brothers, an older sister and son Steve Chen.

He is survived by his wife Shiow Yun Chen-Liu and son Yi Been Chen.

I'm so sorry to hear of Mr. Chen's passing. My mother, Hsu Li-Ping, was long time friends with Mr. and Mrs. Chen. They visited and spoke with each other constantly. Friends you could trust and kept my mother's Chinese language fluent. We always gathered together to celebrate many holidays and other joyous occassions. Mr. Chen will be missed dearly. God bless the family during their time of grieving. Nancy Weronski Pearson.

My condolences to the family. The best comfort can be found in God's word the Bible. I hope they will comfort you. Revelation chapter 21 verse 4 says " And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." That will be the best time ever! Sincerely Janet.
